Ashwell village were delighted when they received fibre broadband installation in May 2023 by the Company Voneus, with help from Ashwell resident and PC liaison Al Jacoutot. 

However, the further good news that the Gigaclear Company were going to supply further infrastructure, thus giving a choice of companies for villagers, has unearthed a problem. 

Gigaclear will be obliged to dig up all the same roads and pavements again, causing further disruption to the village unless Voneus are willing to share their conduits.

North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald has written to both companies and together with local campaigner Nikki da Costa, they are lobbying for common sense to prevail.

Commenting, Sir Oliver said “It is in both companies interests to share the same conduits and would save Ashwell a lot of grief. I will be following this up vigorously and hopefully we can ensure all sides benefit from good co-operation.”
