Speaking in the Environment Bill debate on Wednesday, North East Herts MP Oliver Heald highlighted that in our area there are a lot of chalk streams and that for our population the objectives the Government have agreed on - such as not having sewage overflows into the streams and treating low flows as damage that has to be restored - are incredibly valuable.
Commenting Oliver Heald said “We have 8 chalk streams in NEHertfordshire, from the River Ivel down to the River Lea. I welcome these measures to ensure that low flows and sewage overflow are tackled as a matter of urgency. The Government has also published its Restoration Plan for chalk streams, which is out for consultation now and can be accessed at the Catchment Based Approach website.
