In late 2018, the Government established the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission. The Commission was tasked with championing beauty in the built environment and advising the government on the reforms needed to ensure new homes are built to much higher, locally popular design standards and reflect local character and preferences.
The Government published a comprehensive response to the Commission’s report setting out clear steps the government is taking to embed beauty, design and placemaking in the planning system. Attached below is a letter from the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Robert Jenrick, outlining the Government's response to the Commission's report.
