Following newspaper reports in The Daily Mail 10/6 and The Sun 11/6 that the Curator of Royston Museum had shared tweets on how to destroy statues, Oliver Heald MP has received many messages from local people shocked at these reports.
Commenting Oliver Heald said:
“I deplore criminal damage to national monuments and statues in public places. It is important to respect the Rule of Law and there is a democratic and lawful process to remove statues. I condemn providing information on how to destroy statues. This is completely unwarranted and wrong and reports of these tweets have caused outrage locally.”
Royston Town Council is the Curator’s employer and is investigating the matter. The police are also making enquiries.
