Speaking in Parliamentary debates this week, North East Hertfordshire MP, Sir Oliver Heald, has highlighted the criminal actions of gangs of people traffickers who are putting the lives of refugees at risk in the Mediterranean. Oliver has particularly highlighted the tragedy of Aylan Kurdi, the young boy washed up dead on the Turkish shore. He called on the Government to improve enforcement against the people smugglers who are putting lives at risk, as well as supporting further humanitarian measures.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “It is important that the perilous journey by sea should be recognised and particularly the criminal actions of the traffickers who left Aylan and his family at risk on the sea in a rubber dinghy. As well as taking humanitarian measures I am calling on the Government to ensure better enforcement against the criminals.”
