I am sorry to hear of the death of Ian Stewart, Lord Stewartby. My wife Christine and I are thinking of his widow Deborah and his family at this difficult time. Ian was a friend for 35 years and served the North Hertfordshire constituency for 18 years. He was a Minister in Mrs Thatcher’s government with important Ministerial briefs such as Northern Ireland Security Minister during the Troubles. He was a Treasury Minister and Minister for the Armed Forces. Ian was a mentor to me and I was his Campaign Aide in 1983. It was an honour to follow him into parliament and I would often catch up with him when he was serving in the House of Lords. He will be greatly missed by all the constituents he helped and his many friends in the constituency he served so well.
