Sir Oliver Heald has been shocked by the terrible incident that took place in the Manchester Arena on 22nd May. His thoughts and prayers are with the victims, and the families and friends of those affected. This was among the worst terrorist incidents ever experienced in the United Kingdom.
Sir Oliver has said “I welcome the Prime Minister’s chairing of two Cobra meetings today, and her decision to travel to Manchester to meet the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Ian Hopkins, and the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. She will also meet members of the emergency services who have come to Manchester’s aid in this moment of need. It is also right that the General Election campaign has been suspended.”
“I wholeheartedly share the Prime Minister’s statements that all acts of terrorism are cowardly attacks on the innocent, but this attack stands out for its sickening cowardice – deliberately targeting defenseless children and young people who were enjoying a pop concert. Today, let us remember those who died and celebrate those who stood in to help, safe in the knowledge that terrorists will never win – and our values, our country and our way of life will always prevail.”
