North East Hertfordshire MP Sir Oliver Heald has welcomed announcement of additional funding for local authorities to carry out their new duty to ensure victims of domestic abuse are able to access life-saving support in safe accommodation.
Hertfordshire County Council will receive over £2 million, North Hertfordshire over £33,000 while East Hertfordshire Council will receive £34, 000.
The additional support will help victims and their children access safe accommodation, including counselling and therapy in safe locations.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said: ‘Domestic abuse is a devastating crime that ruins lives. It is vital that we support victims of domestic abuse safely and swiftly. The additional financial support Hertfordshire local authorities will receive is a big step forward in helping to break the cycle of domestic abuse, and protecting some of the most vulnerable in our society.’
