North East Hertfordshire MP Sir Oliver Heald has welcomed the additional funding The Royston Picture Palace will receive from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
The Culture Recovery Fund has already provided a vital financial lifeline to around 207 independent cinemas across England at a critical time when they have been forced to close due to the pandemic.
The Royston Picture Palace will receive a further £6,970 on top of the £46,096 it has already received from the fund. This funding will help independent local cinemas remain financially secure over the coming months, so they can reopen as soon as they are able to after the 17th of May, all being well with the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said: “This is wonderful news for The Royston Picture Palace and for those in the local area who enjoy watching films at the cinema. Local cinemas have great local value and play an important role in any community, bringing people together and reaching a wider section of society. Fantastic news.”
