North East Herts MP Oliver Heald attended the celebrations for the re-opening of Royston Parish Church, St John the Baptist after a four year renovation following the fire which badly damaged the roof, the arch and bell gallery with the chantry bells badly damaged. On Saturday 27 November, there was an Open Day and on Sunday a Service of Celebration. Oliver attended both events.
Commenting, Oliver said “It was exhilarating to see the Church looking so fine and with a new organ and new bells. The look of the Church is much lighter than previously and I know the congregation will welcome the underfloor heating too. Everybody was thrilled to be back in our Church and although it was possible to make out one or two blackened timbers, the renovation work has been a great success. I wish the Vicar, Heidi Huntley, her team and all who use the Church many future happy years there.”
