North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has had three meetings with Morrisons including with CEO Mr David Potts. In his discussion with senior Morrisons executives on Friday 18 September Oliver continued to press the case for the store and highlighted the support in the town shown by petitions and statements from the Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and Royston First. Oliver also asked them, in the event of closure, to ensure good packages for staff and the opportunity for advice over transfers and employment. Although the consultation is continuing, Michael Lambert, Head of Assets, said that the decision was likely next week.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said “Royston has certainly shown Morrisons how important the store is to the town and I pressed the case to keep it. I also think it is important that the staff team are looked after, particularly after their great efforts during the pandemic and all the help they give to the elderly of the town. We will have to see the outcome next week.”
